BMC has been making them of over 10 years and here in Switzerland the Alpen Challenge has a cult status.  The 2013 Alpen Challenge with a Shimano Tiagra-105 component mix weighs in an 10.5 kilos. The bike has flat bars, thumb trigger shifting and disc brakes. You'll have the speed of a road bike paired with the heads-up position and controls of a mountain bike, making the AC02 very versatile: great for road trekking, city riding or flat gravel paths. The AC02 has three chain rings  allowing you to climb anything out there, and Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires which give a bit of traction without the tread that slows you down on the road.
